Spring Fever

The cherry trees are in bloom, and they are spectacular. Our neighborhood deserves a walk through this time of year. We can walk to the gate and see the sight of Mount Vernon through the gates. We've had rain and now we have the blooms of crab apple and cherry. All pink and white and glorious blue skies. Walk out and see for yourselves. Mount Vernon is sitting on the hill and looks far across the fields. Giant trees have fallen all around the woods.

Exploring the muck

The boys are spending their days knee deep in the creek searching through muck and finding old iron tools in the ivy. They have been out with their boots on exploring the woods and the bamboo forest. We've been looking at treehouse books and dreaming about building in the yard.

Grist Mill Park Play Group

Grist Mill Park Mondays seem to be fine. We had a good time visiting with some folks who dropped by around 1:00. The school children must have been home watching television. Had the place to ourselves. Come on out. The sun is shining, we're getting warmer. And, the sap is rising for the youngsters. The only complaint was the swings were missing. Soon, the tadpoles will be in the murky pond at the back. Bring your boots. First and third Wednesday of each month. Some folks are at the Wednesday Co-Operative meeting. But, this day has always worked best for us.

Upload problems

Northpoint was our carrier for the fast modem. It fell victim to AT&T which pulled the plug on March 31. Our newsletter was accessed on their DSL line. The news had ads for AT&T Internet Access. So, if anyone noticed we went missing for twenty-four hours, it took a little while to point us in another direction.

Bulletin Board coming

We are working up a Bulletin Board for chat groups to go on line and talk about things with one another. The teens can talk to each other and those of us who have information to impart can use the interactive Bulletin Board for info.

Gardening News Bonsai

On eBay in the garden auction area, a lot of plants are offered as Bonsai. Craig and I were talking about introducing this to the youngsters at the Co_Op. Wanted to tell Craig about this at Books and Bagels, but I had to go sit on Oleg for playing chase in the library. Yes. you can believe your eyes. I sat on Oleg and quietly told him that he was acting badly by playing chase in the stacks. Then, I left the building with Oleg in a head lock. Those of you who deal with eight year olds daily will understand that my children are improving in their behavior but I am not. So, Mother will be at home until her dear ones listen and obey. Or, be squished. Oleg is getting used to being sat on. It straightens him out for a while.

The good news is for 2.00 plus shipping, we could buy different kinds of trees, and have a class in Bonsai. The children could nurture these trees for a lifetime. I once had a grove of trees in a small pot. It had some rocks and a tiny fisherman. It was a pleasure to rake and look at my small plant.
