Mount Vernon Newsletter for homeschoolers

Suzanne Hall Note from webmaster: This month's newsletter is published posthumously, as Suzanne Hall passed away on September 19th, 2005. All of the enthusiasm and creativity is here on this page, in this transcription of her hand-written first draft. However, Suzanne used to make more edits after at this step (before we put it on the web) and she isn't here to do that. Thus, some of the text may not hang together as well as her earlier issues.

This website will remain up for the time being, as it still may provide some ideas for some homeschooling families. In fact, the day Suzanne died, we received a phone call from a new homeschool mother looking for ideas.

Welcome back to Homeschooling! -- personal note

In April, a bad pap smear resulted in a finding of Grade 1, Stage 3, cancer in total hysterectomy at Holy Cross Hospital. May 13th surgery, use of staples (have metal allergies) resulted in 3 hospitalizations. Found State 4, Grade 3 cancer. Prayer kept us from more surgery.
Found Dr. Travedi, a wonderful oncology hematologist Chemo episodes 1 through 5 went very well. Losing hair like rings of a tree.
Time and time again "My Happy Book," with pictures, cards and photos has restored faith and gratitude. So many people in pain and suffer. Small worries in a world with acts of God show acts of mercy that we are filled with gratitude.
We are looking at cancer, health care system and making family decisions.
My plans and enthusiasm to teach despite all motivating me to throw in the towel is tempered by two daughters who will teach and carry out plans.
Alex plan ready. Check SOL's test scores - good list aims
Oleg plan game plan. Dad is checking on alternatives. Oleg needs to be in school or . . ..
Group continues. We have made great plans for adventure.

Congratulations and Thank Yous

CONGRATULATIONS Paul, Margaret. Success! Law offices, great help with my will and papers. Thank you for your hand in friendship.
LaMarra's. Circus club has produced wonderful friends. I've enjoyed my Devotion Book. The children made with prayers and comfort. Fantastic Utah Road trips, History, adventure, camping.
Despite the information, we are positive that God has brought us to the moments when we can come together in a learning environment. We run year round in homeschool. We would love to use Sylvan or Huntington or Catholic School or we choose to send one to school, for inability to sit down, kinesthetic, listens--hears, learns.
At 12, his brother broke through. We are asking the two graduated teens to work to lesson plans:
Well-Manneded and Byer works. Teaching Company, Middle Ages, Science, Art, History of Languages.
I wish we had Sing, Spell, Read. A community room with games, puzzles, art like the wonderful things we started.
The list is endless. Resources in the Community keep us supplied, we can start Youth programs to mentor.
Language - Rosetta stone

Personal note - cont'd

When my adult child decided to stay with me to help she has slowed her dreams to go to Music School. She wanted NOVA but is worried about driving. She thought that staying, helping, taking care is important. She feels that a sabbatical will keep the family.
We missed sculling due to multiple hospitalizations. Especially painful for Kathy. She loved to work out. She's going to Bally's with Dad.
We have reconnected with people over ideas and nurtured within the group with new awareness of friendship.
I read Dr. Bernie Siegal and use his books to inspire and motivated "attitude of gratitude." The care-givers helped me.
And, the answer to the question:
Can I homeschool the boys and be a mother who has chemo, life threatening breathing problems? What will happen?
God answers prayers. Six months has passed. I've been in the hospital since Aug. 11 with breathing problems. Can't walk. Barely talk and have to start re-hab to learn to walk tomorrow.
On Friday, Dr. Travedi, the best oncology doctor ever, came in to say, you are in chemical remission, your cancer markers are in the normal range. You will be considered a "miracle healing."
Not cancer free, because it will take another round of chemo and always watchful with Pap smears. Healed and blessed and together.
The Hall's motto,
"Hall Family Kicked Cancers' Butt." We'll keep it for a while to remember that.
Being Grateful, Have a Positive Attitude. Setting Goals. Loving and hoping. And, Kay (Kathy) achieving (?) her lifetime goals. My goals are to be positive, show gratitude, love this gorgeous worlds.
Allow God, the Father, the Holy Mother, the sons, the Holy Ghost.
White dove flew to my window here and punched it and passed on by.

Have a Great Year!!!
