Dear 4-H Members and Parents,
Veronica Lamarra and her mother have done the research on our egg
hatching project. The County Extension Office has sent Mrs.Lamarra the
hatching curriculum, and will supply us with a dozen fertile eggs. But
no incubators. Veronica looked in a supply catalogue and found 3-egg
incubators for $16.80 plus shipping and handling. It seems that we
could
make our own incabators out of a cardboard box, or an aquarium, and a
light bulb, and a thermometer. Someone would need to do some research
on
the temperature specifications for hatching eggs and any other
pertinent
information on building our own incubators.
There is a required training session for adults responsible for the
eggs
that is from 3-5 p.m. on April 10th at the Fairfax County Govt Center.
We need 2 parents to take the training. Lisa Lamarra is willing to be
one of the parents. Please someone take the time to do this.
Egg pick-up is April 24th and chick return is May 19th. Each day the
time is from 3-5 p.m., and at that time only.
I think the funnest way to do the egg project is for each family to get
at least one egg. The County Extension Office gets Federal money so
they
want to know the age, race, and gender of every child participating.
The
application form must be postmarked by March 10th so I need to know
which
families are interested in participating in this project. It is
designed
as a third grade curriculum, so younger children would probably get a
lot
out of it as well. Please include their ages, especially 7-, 8-, and
9-
year olds.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the 14th. Be sure to bring your
suits, a towel, and $3.25.
